It is unclear why Sunglass Hut sought out Macy’s expertise particularly, however video surveillance of the theft was delivered to the division retailer the place the facial recognition software program was carried out.

After the facial recognition was delivered to native police, a Sunglass Hut worker who was current throughout the theft was requested to establish the suspect out of a lineup of pictures and selected Murphy.

Murphy was later arrested on the Division of Motor Automobiles in October 2023, despite the fact that he had been in Sacramento on the time of the crime. When his alibi checked out, he was launched.

“After reviewing the paperwork, it seems to us that the police have been making an attempt to do their job,” Murphy’s lawyer, Daniel Dutko, informed CNN. “They have been misled by Sunglass Hut and Macy’s and the rationale why Murphy was jailed is due to the actions of those firms. We could discover data that causes us so as to add them later, however proper now we really feel like we now have correctly named the true unhealthy actors.”

Macy’s didn’t touch upon the “pending litigation.”
